Impact Beyond Buildings

Environmental, Social & Governance

In May 2023, IBIS, an international specialist environmental, social and governance (ESG) company performed an audit on Alleyroads Group. The scope of the audit focused on the group’s environmental aspects pertaining to:

  • Developments
  • Social aspects including positive community impact
  • Group governance concerning policies, their adoption and implementation

The audit found all ESG related aspects to be compliant.

Sustainable Development

Alleyroads incorporates sustainable design elements across all its developments as follows:

  • Consider site: minimise site and vegetation disturbance, and maintain all natural resources and vegetation on site;
  • Building response to climate, rainwater and solar energy harvesting technologies and sustainable building materials;
  • All units are fitted with aerated taps which reduces water consumption;
  • All residential blocks are orientated towards North which minimises energy consumption through natural sunlight;
  • External 220mm face brick walls provide good thermal mass and reduces cost on long term maintenance;
  • Concrete floor slabs absorb heat and radiates it into the units;
  • Concrete roof tiles and roof insulation provides good thermal insulation by reducing heat loss and gain

  • Brick layers, welders and general labour is contracted on the same basis;
  • Food stall that provides food to the labour force;
  • On-site training is provided as part of the Alleyroads Skills Development programme;
  • Permanent employment of a Community Liaison Officer representing the local community and Alleyroads.
